Presbymergent Badges Now Available

August 9, 2009 By Presbymergent Admin 2 Comments

This is certainly a bit late – but we wanted to make some Presbymergent badges available to you so you could put them on your website. You can simply save the images and use them however you’d like on your website. We put together a variety of sizes, so hopefully one of them will work for your website. Enjoy.

Presbymergent News: New Logo and Twitter

January 22, 2009 By Presbymergent Admin 1 Comment

logoTwo brief pieces of news. The first is that we have a selected a logo for Presbymergent. When we opened up the logo contest, we didn’t really have a sense of how long this process would take. We received some really great entries into the logo contest, but we ended up going in a different direction (more info here). We ended up in touch with designer and friend of all things emerging, Paul Soupiset. Paul came up with some great design ideas for us, but we eventually went with the version on the right. After the Coordinating Group meets in February, we will have some downloadable versions of the logo for you to use, and we’ll provide some information on the best ways to do that. Until then – here it is.

The second piece of news is that Presbymergent is finally on Twitter. You can find us here. Or if you are already a Twitterer, feel free to contact us via Twitter by starting your tweet off with @presbymergent. You can also find some of our most recent Tweets on the sidebar. There are many Presbyterians who are out there who twitter, and if you feel you need a little encouragement, check out this post about Twitter. We hope to connect with you (aka: follow you) on Twitter. Follow us to stay updated with Presbymergent. You may especially want to follow us during February 15-17, when the Presbymergent Coordinating Group will be meeting in Louisville.

The Saga of the presbymergent Logo

May 29, 2008 By Presbymergent Admin Leave a Comment

We have been wanting to get an update online for where we are with the logo-selection process. We’re finding this to be a more difficult process than we had initially imagined – but we just want to let you know we are still working on it. We apologize for not getting more information out to the greater community sooner – but the Logo Contest “Committee” (for lack of a better word) has been having some conversations, as has the Coordinating Group, and now we have an update to share with you.

We wanted to create an open source possibility for designers to invent and stimulate our collective imaginations about how to communicate the presbymergent story in a logo. We had a good response and some great pieces were submitted. The difficulty is in determining in an ‘open-sourced way’ what our story is and how we want it told. Moreover we did not make clear the legal relationships that presbymergent or the designers expected. So, we first, want to thank all the contributers and secondly, we have awarded those designers selected by the voting process.

But we have also decided to go a new direction by engaging one designer (pro bono) to develop and refine an original image, departing from the ones submitted by the contestants (you may see similarities to the PC(USA) logo and to images of growth inspire by Emergent Village’s logo, but we feel like this process may be more fruitful). As with any of the presbymergent experiments, if you want to be in the process–included in the we – then contact Adam and you can join the team stewarding this project.

This is a great reminder that this whole presbymergent thing is an act in risk and experimentation. The folks offering to help with the logo entries have been a great help in this experiment, and you who commented on the blog have been as well. If you think of another generative experiment, bring it on. There’s plenty of work to be done.

Announcing the Official presbymergent Logo Contest

April 2, 2008 By Presbymergent Admin 10 Comments

Adam Walker Cleaveland posted a few months ago about the desire for presbymergent to work towards having a logo. Well, folks – this is it. We at presbymergent would like to announce the beginning of the Official presbymergent Logo Contest.

We are hoping that your submission for the logo contest would take into consideration our commitment to the Presbyterian Church (USA) and to the Emergent conversation. It is also our hope that this contest will help both presbymergents and friends of presbymergent think creatively about what our logo might look and feel like. The contest officially begins today, and the deadline for logo submissions will be May 2nd. We encourage you all to submit ideas and spread the word about this logo contest through your blogs, email and Facebook. It’s our hope that this will also be a way to continue to get the word out about presbymergent. Here’s how the contest will work.

  • People will be able to submit logos up until midnight on May 2nd.
  • Logo submissions should be emailed to presbymergent@gmail.com and can be submitted in an appropriate file format (.jpg/.gif/.ai/.png).
  • All entries will be posted on the presbymergent website after the deadline, and anyone can come and vote on the presbymergent site for their favorite.
  • The top five with the most votes will receive one of the five prize packages below, be considered automatic finalists for the contest and proceed on to the final judging process. Although the winners will be guaranteed finalists, the panel of judges may also consider submissions outside of the contest for the official presbymergent logo. The panel of judges will consist of the Presbymergent Editors, friends of presbymergent and a few professional designers.

Presbymergent Logo

January 19, 2008 By Adam Walker Cleaveland 37 Comments

Logo

So clearly this community of friends is starting to gather more inertia. One thing I’ve been wondering for some time is whether we needed to design a logo for presbymergent. Now that we’re planning on having a booth at General Assembly in June, and our name has started to show up on a few posters for events as a co-sponsoring group, I think it might be helpful for us to get a logo designed for presbymergent.

I made the graphic on the right one night just to have something. However, it’s not really a presbymergent logo – just a few little “badges” put together.

So I’d like to suggest we collaborate on getting a logo design put together. Obviously, we don’t have any funds, unless we wanted to raise some money to hire a professional to design the logo. Otherwise, we can seek out people who may be willing to donate their services, or there may be some of you out there who want to take a stab at designing a logo.

I’m also wondering how people would like to go about the process. Should we find one person to work on the logo? Should we have a variety of people design a logo and then we’ll all vote? I’m open to any ideas. I have a few ideas of people we can seek out, some of which may be willing to do it for free. And I am also willing to work on some ideas.

What does everyone think?
