Coordinating Group

  • Adam Copeland, a MDiv student at Columbia Seminary, blogs at http://adamjcopeland.com. Particularly interested in ministry, culture, politics, homiletics, and all things liturgical, Adam is completing a yearlong internship at Ayr St Columba Church of Scotland. He hopes to become a “liberal arts pastor,” one who revels in the many and various tasks of ordained parish ministry.
  • Adam Walker Cleaveland is an M.Div./M.A. (Youth Ministry) graduate from Princeton Theological Seminary as well as a contributing author for the book, An Emergent Manifesto of Hope. Adam blogs regularly at pomomusings.com & presbymergent.org, and does web and graphic design at Cleave Design. Adam has been actively involved in camping and youth ministry. Adam is a Candidate in the Presbyterian ordination track and is a member of the Emergent Coordinating Group and the presbymergent Coordinating Group.   • Brian Wallace is a computer scientist/physicist turned pastor with a passion for youth ministry and alternative worship. He graduated from Grove City College and Pittsburgh Theological Seminary and serves as Associate Pastor for Youth and Outreach Worship at Hampton Presbyterian Church, about 12 miles north of Pittsburgh. There his responsibilities include the Jr and Sr High ministry as well as turningpoint, an alternative approach to Presbyterian worship within a 200 year old congregation. Outside of work Brian enjoys running, messing around with computers, and watching sports of all types - but especially Buffalo Sabres hockey and Syracuse Orange basketball.
  • Carol Howard Merritt is a Pastor at Western Presbyterian Church, an intergenerational congregation in Washington, D.C. Western’s deep commitment to alleviating poverty has initiated missions like Miriam’s Kitchen, a social service program for the homeless which provides breakfast for over 200 men and women; Project Create, which teaches art to children in transitional housing; and HIPS, which stand for Helping Individual Prostitutes Survive. She is the author of Tribal Church: Ministering to the Missing Generation and works with congregations and denominations to understand and reach out to adults under the age of forty.   • Chad Herring’s dayjob is as the Associate Pastor at Southminster Presbyterian Church in Prairie Village, Kansas, a fairly traditional while wonderfully friendly congregation of around 400 folks in the suburbs of Kansas City. He’s done some PhD work (theological ethics). He’s done some parenting (twin daughters almost 2 now). He dreams of a church that was as engaged, open, welcoming, and safe for those who cross its thresholds as those he grew up in….

  • Dave Barry is currently in his 2nd year at Fuller Theological Seminary in sunny SoCal where is working on an MDiv with a concentration in Cross-Cultural Studies. Dave grew up in Atlanta, Georgia, and served as a Presbyterian missionary in Beirut, Lebanon before coming to Fuller. Dave likes coffee from his mocha pot, thunderstorms, and classical music, but is best known for his fauxhawk and goofy smile. Dave also blogs for The Outbox.

  • Jan Edmiston was raised in Chapel Hill, NC and has degrees from UNC-Chapel Hill, Andover-Newton Theological Seminary, and Columbia Theological Seminary. She is a lifelong Presbyterian with occasional forays into non-denominational churches. She was pastor of a small church in Schaghticoke, NY out of seminary, and since 1989 she’s served Fairlington Presbyterian Church Alexandria, VA. Her family includes one husband and three children in Arlington, VA. She blogs at A Church for Starving Artists and she’s a contributor for “Ask the Matriarchs” at RevGalBlogPals.
  • Jim Bonewald is a 2005 graduate of Dubuque Seminary, and a Presbyterian pastor serving a small congregation in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. In his life before the pastorate, he lived and worked in New Orleans in various management positions in both health care and university settings. Jim is married to his wife Lori who is also a minister in the PC(USA). He enjoys reading, biking, and is currently working to improve his photography skills having committed to take and post a photo a day on his blog for an entire year.

John is actively involved in research and writing and is the author of several books including the forthcoming Manifold Witness: The Plurality of Truth in the Living Theology series of Abingdon Press in partnership with Emergent Village. He is a participant in the Re-Forming Ministry initiative of the PC(USA) Office of Theology and Worship and also serves on the Coordinating Group of Emergent Village.

  • Lisa Domke is an ordained PC(USA) minister involved with a number of faith-based and community action groups dedicated to pursuing justice, promoting human rights, and protecting the environment. She co-chairs the clergy-care committee of the Seattle Presbytery, and currently is working on a book on Spiritual Parenting for Questioning Christians. For the past two years, Lisa has been in dialogue with Christian leaders around the country while exploring the development of a new Christian faith community in the Seattle area. Lisa has been married to David Domke for 17 years and is the proud mother of William (6) and Samuel (9 months).

  • Scott Kinder-Pyle is presently the organizing pastor of Latah Valley Presbyterian Church, a newly forming congregation in Spokane, WA. Scott is married to Sheryl, whom he met at Princeton Theological Seminary. They have two children, Ian and Philip. In previous incarnations, the Kinder-Pyle family served another new church development in Limerick, Pennsylvania, known as Crossroads Presbyterian. “Pastor As Struggling Poet” is the title of Scott’s Doctor of Ministry thesis, a bound copy of which may be located in the library at Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, GA.
