  1. Bob Pearson says:

I like 3 for its simplicity and ease of reproduction.
It is not very distinctive in it’s own right but that also is not a major problem.
We will need to infuse it with meaning over time.

Second choices are 2 and 13.
2 would be very difficult to reproduce in some uses and maintain its beauty

13 is a bit cluttered and would be hard to see from a distance or in small uses
it is also a bit boxy looking and we are trying to get outside the box as it were…

11 is fun but not very useable and perhaps too obscure in it’s visual impact

    #12 or #1

  3. Jake Bouma says:

    #14

  4. Rev. Eric Ledermann says:

I vote for #2 and #14. I think #2 is cleaner. Both could easily be altered for a variety of media (color printing, monochrome printing, video, etc.). I would like to see #14 make better use of the name “Presbymergent”. With some of the variations, how would the name, address and contact info be printed with the logo?

  5. Maggie Leonard says:

    I like numbers 13 and 14!

  6. Shawn Coons says:

Too many good choices. I’ll have to digest this before I figure out my decision.

  7. Drew Ludwig says:

Is the creator of #14 willing to help me and my community with a logo?

    That’s some good work!

Seriously though, my church needs a logo. Wanna help?

  8. mihee says:

    i vote for 10 or 13.

  9. C. Tate says:

    #14

  10. LIZ WILSON says:

    #14 and variations on #14

  11. Andy Lucas says:

    14. It has an organic feel that meshes with the nature of the emergent movement, but is strongly remniscent of the PC(USA) logo, which I think is a necessary piece of any logo we should have.

  12. #14 or the third one on #15

  13. Paul Berry says:

    14. Big time. Really nice work.

  14. Seth Thomas says:

#7 and #14 for second. Very nice submissions folks.

  15. Please note that you need to use the voting module on the right hand side of this site. Leaving a vote in the comment section will not count, because we can’t tell if those are actual votes or if you’ve simply left a comment.

  16. Tyler says:

looks like 14 is flat out dominating.

  17. Tommy Brown says:

14 and variations on 14 – good stuff – very organic!

  18. Dannah says:

Nice! I do like #14. It’s simple enough & looks different from the PCUSA Logo- but enough like it. I like it without a background best.

  19. Jeff says:

    No question its 14.

  20. Joel Tolbert says:

Okay, 14 earned my vote… not too piggy backed, orignal, not too obscure, expressive, clean, and does good to get the vibe of the width and breadth of emergent/prebyterian. I did notice though that it is missing the simple, readable text “presbymergent”. SO, while 14 gets it, I also looked through all of them again for a good expression in text form, and for that I would vote #3, text only, under one of the clean #14 options. Does that make sense?

  21. Home Rotix says:

    Yuck. Can we start over?

  22. I agree with Joel that #14 (especially the variation with the black background) is my pick. But text wise I much prefer #15 – it has some edge to it.

  23. Tammy says:

I like #14. I’m not sure if Presby-emergent needs to stand out a little more boldly or not. Once people get used to the logo and readily identify it with the group then it won’t be an issue. The art work is awesome. It feels Presbyterian… but fresh!

  24. pete feltman says:

    14. especially the alternate directly in the middle.

  25. Nancy says:

wow – tons of work represented here! Several would weave both the roots and wings concepts together: 7, 10, 11, 13 & 14. awesome.

my vote goes to 10, I guess with 13 second place. why the slam dunk on 14? it’s creative but not especially outstanding because it’s all about emergent and not the denom connection.

  26. Kendra says:

#14 for sure – well done!!

There are some great contributions here!

  27. Dannah says:

I just got number 9. Went over my head the first time but too funny. But I didn’t read the free radicals part before.

  28. Rex says:

Wow 14 clearly looks the best. Very creative and professional with a true message.

  29. Mike Murdock says:

    13 or 14

  30. Sue says:

I voted for #13. I would take the words out, and just use the symbol as well. I like #14, but it’s not very colorful. A brighter shade of green would give it more energy. It’s a great design, though.

  31. wb says:

I think it is important for it to reflect the national logo in some manner. I am very impressed with number 14 and its variations. I think staying with the green logo is the best.
My one concern is that this is very “hip and trendy” with the current emphasis on environmentalism in the world.
What is the longevity we are hoping for from this logo and/or presbymergent?

  32. kitty lester says:

another vote for the third one down on #15

  33. Amanda Earp says:

    I love number 7!!

  34. Margot says:

I know it’s been discussed, but I really think that tweaking the Presbyterian Church USA logo [even beautiful number 14] is a copyright problem. You can check with PCUSA, but my guess is that a new presbymergent logo needs to be completely distinct from PCUSA. Not trying to be a downer, but it needs to be considered.

  35. D.G. Hollums says:

    14 variations top left. blessings.

  36. k. neal says:

    DEFINITELY #7!!! =)

  37. k. neal says:

    DEFINITELY #7!!! =)

  38. Stushie says:

Just in case you want the symbolism of #12.

It’s a young tree of presbyterian blue emerging from a dead log of Calvinism, in front of a New Easter Sun. The tree represents the Empty Cross, the Trinity and new growth. Finally, the leaves are taken from Revelation, representing the healing of the nations.

  39. Lorinda says:

    #7 is simply genius.

    #9 is funny.
    #10 is prophetic.

#14 is gorgeous. Truly. And…if you squint at the black & white version, it looks like an alien emerging from a tree stump. Very postmodern.

  40. Michael says:

don’t get a logo. it’s a bad thing. keep all these, and evey time someone asks you for a logo, pick one at random and sent it to them.

    subvert the logo.

  41. I think #1 and #12 are distinct enough to be a good start. we run into a crazy problem when the pcusa logo is so loaded with symbols that to repeat them is merely to say, amen. And no one does symbols anymore. Art and even barnd logo design can just as easily evoke something without making a 1-1 comparison. If 4 were more fluid/organic in shape and didn’t use the papyrus font, I’d say it was a 3-way tie.

If #14 had the spirit moving from the text into the world, it would make some since. but any more of that inward facing dove descending onto “us” stuff is not helpful.

#15 and #7 look like the cover of a 1999 youth specialties book, or a 2007 general assembly high school curriculum.

I agree with Michael and Home Rotix, we might need to determine why we need a logo and give more direction to designers. This is a great start and its good to have designers interested! Lets give folks their well-deserved awards but a contest deadline needn’t be the driving M.O. for developing brand identity.

Lets not put down the brush yet.

  42. Ashleigh says:

It seems 7 is one of the only ones that actually fit in a logo-sized space. So many of the others are great but are large enough to be book covers– it seems it’d be hard to appreciate their artistry as as smaller logo.

  43. Eric Ledermann says:

@Ashleigh – Oh I disagree. I believe several of them could be fit into a logo space on letterhead, notepads, pamphlets, and certainly a banner of some sort. Some of them might lose some clarity, but the impact of the logo I think would still be there.

  44. 14 number one choice
    13 number two choice

  45. Shawn Coons says:

I love the reinterpreting of the logo in #14.

At first I liked #7, but then I wasn’t so sure about having the presby and mergent giving off such contrasting messages. I’m also not a big fan of incorporating the Emergent leaf in the logo. Emergent is starting to feel like a brand of some sort to me.

  46. J Lynn Pflug says:

    #3 sez it all!

  47. Nestor Maldonado says:

    # 14 for sure. It’s elegant yet dynamic. The tree-like cross is our calling to plant the seeds of each of our ministries. It’s closeness to the Presbyterian logo is essential.

  48. Laura C says:

I like #14, with Troy’s idea of the dove headed in the other direction…

  49. Steve Wright says:

    14 is outstanding!

  50. I vote for all the variations of #14. By far the best choice!
