Live From Houston (Part II)

As I struggle to stay awake at the end of an incredible day, here are some of the highlights from day two of the PGF Conference:

  • Early morning prayer (led by our own Karen Sloan) from the Book of Common Worship in a very “alt. worshippy” decorated prayer room.
  • Breakout session with Chris Seay — wrestling with questions like “do emergents believe in absolute truth?” and “why do they all look alike?”
  • Meeting with Jack Haberer, editor of the Presbyterian Outlook (Shawn from Decently.org joined us for this one). We shared stories and visions, and hopefully created opportunities to help each other out. Oh, and Karen even talked Jack into joining Facebook!
  • Meeting with Eric Hoey, the new Director of Evangelism for the PC(USA). We shared stories and visions, and hopefully created opportunities to help each other out (sound familiar? we’re doing a lot of that, aren’t we?).
  • A “field trip” to Ecclesia — Chris Seay’s church (which is also a community coffee house, a bookstore, an art gallery, a venue for peforming arts, and a recording studio!).
  • Listening to Derek Webb perform at the conference “coffee shop” event, followed by a conversation with Chris Seay and Michael Frost. (I actually MET Derek Webb earlier that day — it just doesn’t get any better than that for this edgy-neo-folk-music-loving presbymergent!).
  • Reconnecting with old friends and meeting lots of new ones, presbymergent and otherwise.

If you’re just joining us from the conference, feel free to share your highlights and favorite moments with us via comments, too. I’m sure I’m forgetting many wonderful and enriching things/speakers/events.
