Presbymergent Bloggers & Churches

Are you Presbyterian? Are you “emergent” (whatever that means…)? Are you a blogger? Let us know and we will add your blog to the list of Presbymergent Bloggers.

We are also collecting a list of churches that are Presbyterian (USA) and seeking to engage an emerging, postmodern culture in their ministry. We know of some (Wicker Park Grace, The Portico) but we’d like to create a larger list so that pastors and leaders from these churches could network and support one another.

So please send us your links so we can begin to grow the resources here at presbymergent.

  1. Adam,

Thanks so much for putting this together. I’m a member of a mainline evangelical church that split from a Presbyterian congregation in the 1960s but is still very much Presbyterian.

The church is “not a fan” of emerging-ish thought to say the least, but they’re my community so I stick with them.

My blog is located at http://www.paradoxica.net. Many of my readers are members of my congregation, so I do what I can to make my words “palatable.”

    Cheers,

    Scott

This is great Adam, I’ll watch with interest how things develop. I’m in a slightly different situation, I’m worshipping with the Presbyterian Church in Ireland, but looking at alternative and emerging possibilities within the Methodist Church in Ireland. I work in inner city Belfast in an Irish Methodist context, and theologically trained in the Presbyterian Seminary.

How emerging communities find a home within the mainline is very much a live issue for us in Ireland.

Looking forward to seeing how things develop here.

good idea adam. thank you for putting this together. i think it is and will continue to be challenging to be emerging within the presbyterian church. it will be a great help to have a community where we can support each other.

i am a member of presbyterian church of the covenant in costa mesa, california. in july of ’06 we started an emerging worship service called emerge. i am a coordinator of the gathering. you can visit my blog at http://taco-lover.blogspot.com/.
i look forward to see where this site goes. God bless.

    Hey all,

I’m a former high-school teacher, and current Presbyterian youth/music director in Frisco, Tx. My blog is Mr. Locke’s Classroom. My church isn’t exactly emergent, but I am. There is so much potential in what emergent offers, but so much in Presbyterianism that I can’t leave behind. This is a great idea, and I hope it takes off!

I’m an associate pastor for youth and outreach at a church north of Pittsburgh. We’re attempting to “think different” about worship with a service called turningpoint (www.turningpointhpc.org)

My own personal blog is wallybarthman.wordpress.com

I’ve been involved with Emergent through Emergent Pittsburgh for about a year and a half now. I hope this site can develop into a place for conversation and resources.

  12. Sarah says:

Might I be added to the list of Presbymergent bloggers? I am an emergent presbyterian attending seminary in the mojave of our denomination (Boston Metro Area) who is searching to figure out who God is and what it means to be Presbyterian in a place that is not whilst discerning a call to ministry in the big umbrella that is PCUSA.

My blog– deeperinmethani.wordpress.com– is a mix of my experiences trying to answer those questions (often with more questions) as well as some personal silliness.

    thanks!
